Juniors & Seniors,

On Friday, April 17  @ 9:00 we will have an Accident Simulation on campus. The simulation will be held on 16th St SW next to the baseball field. All Juniors and Seniors will be excused from class around 8:50 and asked to surround the accident on the west side of the baseball field.

We will explain to the students the scenario and then call dispatch. This event will result in the Waverly Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol, Waverly Health Center, Covenant Air Care, Waverly Police Department,Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Bremer Co. Emergency services and local wrecker service to be called on site.

This simulation is an opportunity for our local volunteers and response units to practice. It is also an emotional event for many who have been involved or know someone involved in an accident. We ask that all students do the following:

1. Come to the event with an open mind;
2. Provide the volunteers with space to work;
3. Respect the emotions/feelings of tall involved.

We will land the helicopter on the baseball field. All students will need to stay clear of the helicopter.

Following the event, we will have all Juniors/Seniors report to RADA to debrief with our local authorities. Students should walk in front of the school on 4th Ave and proceed to RADA.

If you wish to remove yourself from the simulation, please go to the main office.

I want to thank Kevin Miller and all the volunteers who have made this a learning opportunity for all students.

Thanks,

Mr. Langner

Hi,

April is National School Library Month, and the Student Library Advisory Board would like to encourage you to participate in the "No Screen, Just Read" Challenge during the week of April 13-17.

General Information
The challenge will take place during 5th hour on MondayTuesdayThursday, and Friday during the week of April 13-17, and teachers have the option of deciding whether or not their 5th period class will participate in the challenge.  If a teacher chooses to participate in the challenge, all students in his/her class must also participate.  The challenge was designed to promote free reading time, so participants must be allowed to choose their own reading material.  Please note that--per the challenge name--only print reading materials (books, newspapers, magazines, comic books, graphic novels, etc.) will be allowed.

Earning Points
Participating classes will read 10 minutes each day, and the classroom teacher will be responsible for recording daily reading information on a Google Doc.  Five points will be awarded daily for each student who participates.  Ten points will be awarded daily for each teacher and/or associate who participates.  Bonus points can also be earned.  Five points can be earned for every minute of reading the class participates in beyond 10 minutes.  Ten bonus points will also be awarded for each student, teacher, and associate who complete a follow-up survey.

Prize
The winning class(es) will earn an ice cream party!
